Books were a particular fondness for Ketsueki, but unfortunately most bookstores were not open at the hours that he was awake. It happened that this particular evening though he happened upon a stroke of luck, and found that this second hand bookstore had forgotten to properly latch their backdoor, and so he was able to enter.
It was dreadfully late, and most of the city was already asleep, so Ketsueki didn't fear being noticed. The last thing he truly wanted was a run in with some sort of local authority, although it could make for an easy dessert (since he was freshly fed that evening already).
With no need for light, he browsed the old books, looking for titles of interest. It had been a terribly long time since he'd found something new to read, and he did greatly tire of the stories he already had at home. No, he desired something new and different, and so he was determined to be as picky as time allowed to find the perfect book to take back with him. After all, the store likely wouldn't miss it, and if they did, so be it. He truly believed he would not be caught in such an ordeal.

L IVE LIFE LIKE » Perhaps the vampire's luck was good to begin with, but it didn't hold out. The angel, Kinkade, was on the street, murmuring in hushed tones with a stranger who was trying to lecture him about the late hour when someone sneaking into the bookstore caught his eye. A small smile twitched at his lips. Patiently, Kinkade continued the conversation with the man, assuring him he lived nearby. Knowing his new destination, he even swore that the man would be able to see him enter his home, if he just let him go without telling the authorities. The man grudgingly agreed, so Kinkade smiled and relied on the darkness of the evening to draw doubt as to which doorway he went into.
When Kinkade slipped into the bookstore, he really wasn't sure why. He glanced over his surroundings briefly, then moved quietly, hoping to catch sight of the intruder. When he did finally reach the shelf the vampire was presently browsing, he wasted no time making his presence known.
"Don't suppose you're the owner, hm?"Kinkade prompted, his expression a surprisingly happy smile. It certainly didn't fit the late hour, much less the present situation. ✘kins [/blockquote] « THE LATEST ATTRACTION ...

So engrossed in searching the titles, and so confident that no one else was around, it was a terribly unnatural sound to his ears as the male voice came out of the quiet.
"Don't suppose you're the owner, hm?" the voice inquired, drawing Ketsueki's attention away from the books and to the speaker. His eyes looked over to the slightly shorter male first, his head slowly following the gaze until he was peering at him.
There were no emotions in the cold red stare that he gave the other male, just an accusing silence as he felt greatly interrupted. He didn't speak, just contemplating why this person was wandering around at such an hour. He could tell by the scent of warmth and the hint of color beneath the skin that this male was not one of his own kind, so what was he doing up at this hour? There was no alcohol on his breath, either, so he hadn't been at the bar like most humans seemed to enjoy for one reason or another until the wee hours of the morning.
After what seemed like quite the stretch of time, but was probably more like sixty seconds or so, he finally responded. It was calm, and the voice was low and held the airs of the lifestyle he once had.
"Of this store, I am not. What does such matter to yourself? If it is none of your business, I'd prefer if you left me to my peace."

L IVE LIFE LIKE » Books. So many, they seemed to tempt his attention. Kinkade made a point of keeping his gaze fixed on the male in front of him.
"Leave you be? I could very well tell the police, and then you'd be forcibly removed. Aren't I the lesser evil on your peace?"The Scottish boy warned, "Can't have strangers messing up local business for us, anyway, and you're very likely the only one up and not within their home at such a late hour." Kinkade took a few steps toward the vampire, his expression becoming curious. His gaze fell to the book the vampire was holding as if that were far more interesting than the individual. After what felt like far too many years, the young angel did find the book more interesting, merely by virtue of potentially being a motive.
"Did you break into here for a specific book? "Kinkade prompted, not seeming bothered by how bluntly he put the accusation. Not that he really cared; it wasn't his store, and besides, in a few months no one would even care what happened to this old place.[/blockquote] ✘kins [/blockquote] « THE LATEST ATTRACTION ...

Ketsueki raised an eyebrown at the male before him. Call the police? And then what? Apparently this male didn't quite grasp the situation he had walked into; not that he particularly cared either.
"If you so desire, then alert the local authorities. They would be of no particular use in this situation though." he responded flatly, not particularly amused by the other male at the moment. His peace and quiet had been interrupted after all.
He did notice the man's gaze traveling to the book in his hand. He had pulled out a novel on the history of magics in various lands foreign to the one he was currently in. He was curious to see how the his homeland, should it be a part of the compilation, was portrayed in the books of today. After all, it had been quite a long time since the era he was most comfortable being alive in.
"Did you break in for a specific book?" came the ever curious question, and Ketsueki sighed softly, a bit annoyed.
"No, I did not." he answered, offering no explanation. Turning away from the male, he continued to trace a finger along the shelves lightly, a habit he had from long ago as he read the titles. His fingers were long, slender, and pale with a feminine feel because of the nails. While they didn't appear overly dangerous to the eye, they were in fact very strong and the nails quite sharp.

L IVE LIFE LIKE » "Wouldn't call the police, anyways,"Kinkade admitted unnecessarily, seeming determined to ignore the man's obvious feelings all together. He resolved that he would, very patiently, wait the other man out. Surely the other guy would give in and talk to him. Kinkade slid down against the bookshelf opposite of the vampire, reaching to his side to grab a random and, unfortunately, particularly boring book regarding the technical aspects of some war or other. Rather than find another, he flipped to a random page so he could pretend to be interested.
No more than a page turn later, with less than half of the two pages' content read, Kinkade's resolve faltered a bit in the form of another question.
"Why this store? Isn't there a Barnes and Noble or something to spend your time in? "Kinkade couldn't help but voice. Man, his will power was clearly great. He pretended to glance back at the book, to make it seem like he was still reading and had just asked out of impartial curiosity. Clearly by virtue of thinking curiosity could be impartial, Kinkade's reasoning was a bit faulty.[/blockquote] ✘kins [/blockquote] « THE LATEST ATTRACTION ...

Idle threats. Somehow, he wasn't surprised in the least, since that seemed to be something of the norm these days. And when it came to the foolishness known as humanity, it usually worked because they often acted like a heard of sheep who feared the dog that kept them huddled together.
He heard the other man slide down to the floor, grab a book, and begin flipping through the pages. Based off the timing at which the man turned the pages though, he was either a speed-reader or he just didn't particularly care about the book. No matter though, at least he was being quiet. Ketsueki had learned over the years that if you didn't become thankful for the little things offered in life, there wasn't very much that you would be thankful for.
All too soon though the silence was broken by more speaking, more questions. Foolish questions, in his mind.
Without looking back at the man, he responded, "I have no interest in the foolish stories written by the idiotic mortals of today, nor am I daft enough to believe that they would not enable the alarms." Another cold answer that left little explanation to it.
Having finished looking over the shelves in front of him, he made his way to the next aisle of books over, to begin scanning those shelves. He'd take as many as desired tonight, so as to not have to make this trip again for some time.

L IVE LIFE LIKE » "You're not a people person, are you?"Kinkade suddenly assessed, feeling quite intelligent for doing so. He refrained from following, even as the other moved out of his line of vision (it made it easier to speak, anyway, since what he was saying wasn't exactly favorable). "I mean, don't get me wrong- you've got that dark haired mystery image about you, but I just assumed it was too cliche. I mean, for the same reason you wouldn't want to expect the prep to be in a cheerleader's outfit- you just fit too well. " Now, encouraged by his previous words, he kept on further- clearly finding no common sense that would have normally shut him up. " You're not into, like, the goth trend, are you? Is that why you're antisocial? Because, you know, they have groups for that."In an odd way he really was trying to be helpful with his suggestion. Ketsueki ignored the first question, there was no reason to answer it. If it wasn't obvious that he didn't care for people, then the other male was more a fool than he had first assessed him to be. Unfortunately, the rambling didn't stop with just the question, and the more that was spoken the more irritated he became.
"If by goth trend you are referring to the blithering fools of humanity who wallow in self pity, anger, and despair wishing to be taken away by the darkness of their own clothes, then no." he responded coldly, "I do not even fathom where such foolish ideals were thought of, and why those such as yourself are foolish enough to ask such questions."
His footsteps as he moved across the wooden floor echoed in the otherwise quiet building, reverberating off the stacks of books that surrounded them both. It seemed he may have gotten his hopes up as to what was contained in this bookstore, because many of the titles were simply uninteresting. Some, downright distasteful. He couldn't help but toss a particularly vulgar (to him) book across the room, letting it crash deftly into a wall in doing so. Twilight, what a horrible creation. No wonder it had become second hand. Such a disgrace.

L IVE LIFE LIKE » "I can't fathom why you're foolish enough to dress in such a manner,"Mocked the youth, his tone serious as he spoke. It held an almost inhuman quality with how close (albeit sarcastic sounding) the voice he used was to Ket's. Of course, as an angel, it was sort of a useless little talent. The footsteps seemed to lull Kade back toward happiness, mostly because he assumed Ket was moving farther still from where he was sitting. At the moment, he certainly wouldn't mind that.
"Hey, now, don't take your frustration out on poor innocent books; they just might be your only friends. "Kade's voice revealed that cheerfulness from before, but now he was just being mean. Shaking his head, he gave a slight huff before he forced himself up, off the floor. Being mean wasn't going to make him any happier, and it wasn't going to convince the vampire to lighten up and not act like he was being inconvenienced while he trespassed in a store. " Alright, alright, I'm sorry. Suppose I have to be sort of nice to you, just because you're not asleep. It's rude of me not to say so before, but I'm Kinkade. You can call me Kade, if you want to."Kade introduced formally, leaning against the bookshelf while still standing. He thought he was looking in the general direction of the stranger, but if he wasn't, he was at least looking forward, toward the worn looking column of novels. It didn't seem to strike him that the person he addressed probably couldn't care less what his name was. To his credit, he did sort of realize that Ket didn't complain when he was silent. Could it be his voice? As an angel, he'd always considered his voice quite harmonic, at least compared to a mere human's. " You know, if you needed any help finding something, I got nothing better to do."Kade offered, figuring that the willingness to help would be a nice way to solidify his apology.[/blockquote] ✘kins [/blockquote] « THE LATEST ATTRACTION ...

Ketsueki heard the mocking voice, contemplated very briefly getting violent with the other male, and just as quickly dismissed the thought. Though his species were known to be quick to draw blood, he didn't particularly care for it most of the time. And besides, it would require him to actually acknowledge the other man's presence, which he didn't particularly wish to do.
His ears picked up the movements of the other male, standing apparently, and he passed it off. It didn't really matter all that much to him what the other person did, because he was determined not to care. And hopefully that would just make the other male go away.
Everything he did though seemed to do the exact opposite, and he paused as the other male not only apologized, but introduced himself. He stayed silent, not moving, not quite sure how he wanted to respond. Common courtesy said he had to be civilized, but annoyance said he didn't have to do anything to that nature. It was a bit of a tear between his former life and his current life, really.
In his silent contemplation the other male, this Kade, spoke up with an offering to assist him in whatever search it was he was making. He sighed, he was still angry, but the manners that were taught at such an impressionable age were going to win out after all.
Soft footsteps along the wooden floor could be heard as he came back around to within eyesight of the other male. He had no idea if this person could see him, and he didn't particularly care either. He could see Kade, and that was good enough.
"My name is Ketsueki." he responded, rather flatly. "I am not searching for anything in particular though, so there is nothing you can do to assist me. Why are you even here?" It was the first question he had asked, and it was blunt. Why was this person here? Most creatures were asleep at this hour, so what kept this one up? Was his sole purpose to annoy the night dwellers? It seemed unlikely.

L IVE LIFE LIKE » Kade's attention followed the sound, but he couldn't quite see him from this angle. Oh, well. He didn't need to.
"It's very good to meet you, Ketsueki, but that's a pity- I would have loved to help."Kade replied happily. At the question about himself, he grinned. See, Ketsueki did care! Sort of.
... Kade was a good pretender.
"Oh, interesting story, actually,"Kade began, his tone enthusiastic. "You see, I don't sleep. Ever. I guess I can, but why would you? I mean, it wastes so much time, and if you're not tired, why bother? So, looking so young, being outside is sort of challenging and being inside is a bit annoying- turns out people are really paranoid if you're in the room while they sleep- I'm sort of banished from midnight until six in the morning. Not that I mind- it's not that fascinating watching my friends minute movements. But it gets a little lonely. Guess needing people comes with being me. " Though Kade figured saying 'species' was bad form (just in case Ketsueki turned out to be human), he was still thinking it when he said it came with being him. Angels were supposed to be social, weren't they? As for his general tendency to ramble- ... maybe not sleeping had a couple of side effects. " So this place- well, you, really- seemed like the most interesting person up this late. The last person that saw me thought it was past my curfew. I don't look that young, do I?"Kade questioned, suddenly glancing down at himself as if to assess it for himself. His rambling stopped at that because he couldn't keep it up and consider his appearance at the same time. Word to the wise; never get Kade talking about himself, even indirectly.[/blockquote] ✘kins [/blockquote] « THE LATEST ATTRACTION ...

Rambling, just rambling. Where did it come from? Could such a simple, and rather direct, question cause such an annoyance? Apparently so. Ketsueki frowned, not particularly caring about such things. Curfew? Watching people sleep? Never sleeping yourself? Okay, the last one piqued his curiosity a bit, but the first two just made him sound like a foolish child. In fact, looking at him, he did look rather young. Although, he knew the same could be said of himself probably, too.
"You realize that if you simply hadn't left your quarters at such late hours, no one would bother you about the curfew." he stated bluntly, pointing out what seemed to be obvious to him. "Not sleeping sounds like an awful inconvenience to me though, if it causes you such separation anxiety. What are you, a dog?" It was a rude question, but he was a titch annoyed with the rambling at this point. And it was kind of true, the way Kade was talking, that's what it sounded like. Domesticated dogs were the only animals Ketsueki knew of that were so desperate for contact with humanity that they seemed depressed to be parted from it even for a few short seconds. He pitied the creatures greatly for such a pathetic dependency.

"No- angel- thanks."Kade replied shortly. If Ket wasn't going to respond well to his age-appropriate (okay, what Kade considered age appropriate- there was a difference) behavior, he certainly could act much older. Angels were cursed with long lifespans. It was just easier to pretend they weren't.
"I'd half expected your civility to last more than two minutes- guess that's too much to ask."Kade added. Not that it needed to be said- he just needed an excuse to ask the next question. "Are you really that incapable of a simple interaction? I mean, if you are, perhaps your need to hang out in dusty, unused bookstores suits you. The word, the fact that this male before him was an angel, was a shock. He had been expecting some sort of insomniac, or a shape shifter. Angel was very far from anything he would have guessed, though it did make sense. The easy kindness, desire to be friendly, the wish to help; they all were common traits one would associate with that species. And apparently, he didn't know that Ketsueki was a vampire.
There was a long moment of silence as Ketsueki recovered from the shock of that revelation, before he spoke again. "An angel, huh?" he stated, more than asked, to reaffirm it in his mind, "Well, that answers quite a few questions then."
He let things fall back to silence for a moment as he decided whether to honor the statement to his civility or not, before he spoke again, "I assure you I am quite civil with those who are capable of holding an intelligent conversation. Rambling is not present in such." Again, bordering on rude, mostly because this was a truth to him.
