Character Personality: Kade is somewhat hard to pinpoint. If there's one thing that's constant, it's the fact that time always manages to change him. It may be subtle, but it happens. Presently Kade is particularly patient, somewhat paternal, loyal, moral, and polite. On the negative side, he's a little bit suspicious, and more than a little distant. He may seem pretty forthcoming, but he tends not to talk about things that are too personal. You can listen to him talk for hours and still not know anything of value. He's fairly articulate, he doesn't mind public speaking, but he dislikes being in the midst of a crowd or even within a group. He doesn't like having all the attention- it seems sort of counter intuitive to strive for that. Kade's also known to have a temper which may seem to cancel out his patient nature, but the defining key is what he's patient with and when his temper flares. He will not tolerate disrespect toward himself or someone he cares about, and he tends to generally disprove of gossip or criticism. Turns out that for him, a hundred years on this planet tends to take away the allure of gossip. But his patience rarely seems to waver when it's a young child, elderly citizen, or someone else who needs his help, no matter how trying the person may be.
Kade is very goal oriented. He'll do things he wouldn't normally do if it gets him an advancement, so long as the injustice won't occur after the advancement. He's very secretive about everything he does, so don't expect him to tell you outright what's on his mind. Lastly, one should take note of his stand-off type attitude. He doesn't strive to be liked by everyone- he just wants to get to know and protect a few humans and move on to the next so that he can do it all over again. With that mentality brings a certain level of coldness to his general demeanor. Yes, he does get excited, and yes, other flares of emotion show- he's not emotionless, he's just not exactly eager to waste time with every person he sees or speaks to.
Likes: Citrus flavors, music, furry creatures, speaking in public (especially if it gives him a reason to leave a crowd), and politics
Dislikes: Crowds, the number eleven, cold temperatures, loose clothes, and his tendency for motion sickness
Strengths: His intelligence, his empathy, and his patience
Weaknesses: His secretive nature, his apathetic demeanor, and his youthful appearance
Habits: He routinely walks with his heels up- almost as if he's walking on his toes all the time. He doesn't know why he does it, but in hindsight, he theorizes that it makes him quicker. Yet, since he doesn't notice he does it, he's rarely ever doing it at the opportune moment when running would be necessary. He also has a defensive habit when he's with other people. If he's walking down a hall or street, he'll move to the side closest to the obstacle they encounter, be it a person, an animal, a vehicle, a crack in the road, or just about anything else- he's very vigilant.
Fear: He's terrified of fire and being burned, he's terrified of misleading someone he tries to advise, and he's scared of vampires (he doesn't know any well, he just knows they exist)
Character History: The list of things Kade doesn't remember are numerous. He doesn't remember when he was born or where (he died and was subsequently born as an angel in Germany in the year 1903 but originally he was born in England as a human sixteen years earlier.), when he got his power (he's always had it to some extent, but he learned to use it when he'd been alive as an angel for a decade) or when he gained the Scottish accent that characterizes his voice (he adapted it in 1958 when he took up residence in Scotland after a bit of traveling). What he does remember tends to be more recent; he knows how he met the girl that convinced him she was his 'sister'. Kairi Malixi was the girl he wanted to protect as part of his 'mission'. His mission is the reason he thinks he's on Earth, bound to roam endlessly it seems. And Kairi? Kairi's one of the few he has to help along the way. As with all people he protects, they manage to give at least gift him with one thing he couldn't easily give himself. In Kairi's case, she was able to provide him with a last name and a family for the duration. It was a small luxury he'd been missing- something he hadn't attained since becoming an angel, though he'd had plenty of relationships with others.
At any rate, Kairi was different. She wanted to know about him and she seemed alarmed by his own apathetic attitude about the past, so he strove to remember and tell her things he remembered. Things like, before he was Kinkade Malixi, he went by Evan Kinkade, and before that, just Evan. Not that he seems to know a difference. The transition of names seemed almost irrelevant; for all he knew, he could have had a million different names. It didn't change much. He also told Kairi that the reason he adopted the surname Kinkade was because he met a brilliant Scottish professor, Shiloh Kinkade, who took him in. Shiloh never did approve of the young angel's assistance, but he was more than willing to care for him instead. It was a strange role reversal for the angel, but he handled it well and managed to help the professor in small ways. Mostly, he just gave the professor his wish for a son.
What Kade's left to figure out is more immediate. His question is, why Kairi? Kade rarely knows why he chooses someone at first. Occasionally he'll just see them and know. Other times they seem to sense him and seek him out. Sometimes it's even just a matter of seeing someone frequently- if he sees the same woman on the bus every day, then he sees her at the store, he may interpret that as a divine sign. The simple questions usually take precedence over the overarching question, which means the ultimate question in his life is why Kai chooses to call him Rev. Truthfully, the somewhat oblivious boy doesn't know. She won't tell him and he won't ask. It's easier that way, just like it's easier to accept that he only gets brief flashes of things he's done, and he doesn't remember it all at once. There's no point to it that he can understand- it never stays with him for very long. It's sort of like his mind takes snapshots; he folders things away that no longer influence his day to day being so that he can focus solely on a smaller group and not the entire world.
Character Powers: Kinkade has the ability of dream manipulation. Subsequently, Kinkade is the king of the dream domain. Ask him, he'll tell you. He can enter your dreams and once inside, control things inside of them by sheer desire to do so. He often says more within a dream than he would standing before you. Inside your dream he can also manipulate his appearance very slightly- his eyes can be a different color, his hair can be, just simple things. Rarely will he bother because, surprisingly, manipulating anything about himself is far more challenging than manipulating even the largest of structures inside of a dream. As a sort of side effect, Kade doesn't need to sleep. He can sleep, but his body seems to have no real need to do so. His brain seems wired to sustain itself without the cyclic stages of sleep. Not sleeping makes him hungry at random times of the day and, because he's usually moving about, he tends to eat more to compensate for the energy he burns.
Strengthens: It leaves him energetic, insightful (he tries to interpret dreams/read people while they're awake), resourceful (he wants to assure people when they have nightmares- sometimes he has to be clever to accomplish it)
Weaknesses: No anonymity, no real physical power (it's only psychological), disrupted sleep and eating patterns, and a distorted sense of time.
